Meet Nathan Quartey: The Ghanaian Model Discovered in Paris

A stranger stopped Nathan Quartey on a Paris street with a polite opener: “Excuse me, sorry, do you speak English?” Seconds later, a camera was up, the light was right, and photographer David (@abidblanc) was telling the 23-year-old law student from Accra that he should consider modelling.

A Face You Don’t Forget

Nathan was on a one-month holiday in Paris when David spotted him. Close-cropped ginger hair, an auburn beard, freckled skin and dark brown eyes, all caught in the golden-hour light against Parisian limestone. Nathan took it in stride. He stood still, trusted the light and let the moment happen. “It’s something I get a lot also, so I’m happy it’s appreciated,” he says of his hair. The encounter lasted only moments. The reaction lasted much longer.

Ready, Not Rushed

Modelling isn’t entirely unfamiliar territory to Nathan. It’s something he has considered before, though he wasn’t in Paris trying to be discovered.

Now, with the unexpected attention, he’s taking the opportunity seriously while continuing his law studies. His approach is straightforward: see where the opportunity leads, develop properly and let the work speak for itself.
