Interview With Fashion Model Blessing Okafor

Blessing Okafor

SA: Who is Blessing Okafor?

Blessing Okafor is a chocolate-skinned Igbo girl from Nigeria who is passionate about modelling and fashion. I see myself as a builder who constantly seeks out the development of my friends and those around me to make sure they excel in what they do. I am determined, a goal getter and a fine babe that loves to “huzle”.

SA: What inspired you to be a model?

I wasn’t really inspired by anyone or anything; I just felt like doing it and I loved the way it made me feel (confidence).

SA: Describe your sense of style in 3 words.

No stress, Freedom, Sexy

SA: Which brands have you worked with?

Aniepro Beauty, GT Bank Fashion Weekend, Dazed Fashion, Lagos Fashion Fair, Africa Fashion and Design Week, Sony Alpha Nigeria, Lighthouse Beach and a couple of others I can’t remember.

SA: What was the first job you ever booked as a model?

Ajegunle Fashion Designers Week

SA: Why is it important to be in a model agency?

I wouldn’t consider being in an agency to be important, though being a part of an agency provides certain added benefits, such as having a guide and being able to get some bookings that a freelancer can’t, but ultimately, it’s all about branding and strategic positioning.

SA: Do you have to be tall to be a fashion model?

Yes, you do have to be tall so as to be considered a fashion model. For ladies, the minimum height is 5’9″ and the maximum is 6’0″.

SA: Many people believe that modeling is just about style and makeup. What are your thoughts on this?

Modelling is not just about style and makeup, it’s a lifestyle, it’s being the representation of what is to come. It is bringing alive a person’s thought or creation.

SA: What would you change about the past if you could go back?

Nothing really, I try not to depend on my mistakes or have regrets because if I didn’t have those mistakes, I wouldn’t be as knowledgeable as I am today. Like they say, experience is the best teacher.

SA: What is your go-to outfit for daytime?

Shorts, White polo and Crocs

SA: What is the funniest or most fascinating thing that has happened to you since you started modelling?

Most fascinating was when I did a job for Dazed Magazine and had no idea, but I was paid extra because I was good at my job.

SA: Are there any models in the industry you look up to?

Yes I do have a few

SA: Do you believe models in your country are given the attention they deserve?

They aren’t to be honest.

SA: What are the three songs you’re listening to on repeat?

None currently

SA: Is there competition in the model industry? What do you think about the competition in this
industry?

The industry is really competitive, the competition isn’t healthy but then it puts you on track if you are smart and ready to take over.

SA: What advice would you give to someone starting out?

– God first
– Study about your craft
– Be ready to learn
– Be very humble
– Take risks
– Don’t be afraid to talk about your craft to people, market yourself (Branding is really important)
– Don’t be afraid to make mistakes

SA: How can someone get in touch with you for collaborations or business?

Through my mother agency (@pagesmodels management) or send a direct dm to my Instagram @okaforblesing
