A gritty crime thriller from renowned multi-hyphenate Jade Osiberu called “Gangs of Lagos” marked the dazzling debut of Amazon Prime Video’s first African Original on Thursday night, April 6, 2023, in Nigeria.
“Gangs of Lagos” is a story about loyalty and betrayal, rival gangs, and brutal retaliation in a city where gangs are supported by strong political rulers. It gives a depiction of lives lived on the outskirts of a city whose promises of quick success remain, for the majority, out of reach as it unfolds amidst the dizzying rush and clamor of Isale Eko, a district filled with poverty and violence. The film’s star cast includes Adesua Etomi-Wellington, Chiké, Tobi Bakre, Bimbo Ademoye, Chioma Akpotha, Iyabo Ojo, Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi, Pasuma, Zlatan, Adebowale “Debo” Adedayo (Mr. Macaroni), Yhemolee, Tayo Faniran, Demi Banwo, Olarotimi Michael Fakunle, and Ogunsi and directed and produced by Jáde Osiberu.
Celebrities from the Nigerian film and entertainment sectors gathered to toast a movie that ignited the raucous indigenous crowd before its international premiere at a packed house on Lagos’ posh Victoria Island. The event included a spectacular assortment of visitors who were dressed in keeping with the intriguing theme of “Owambe Gangster” and displayed stunning fashions with a touch of gangster.
