Fitness, Fashion, and Fierce Goals –  A Conversation with the Fittwins

The Fittwins

In this interview, we chat with the Fittwins, the twin duo making waves in fitness and modeling. They open up about their journey, their goals, and how they inspire others through their brand. This is a conversation about passion, teamwork, and making a difference.

SA: Can you introduce yourselves and your brand?

Fittwins is a dynamic brand that brings together fitness and commercial modeling, combining our passion for health and aesthetics. Our mission is to inspire people to embrace an active lifestyle while showcasing the beauty of fitness through stunning visuals. With a team of dedicated fitness enthusiasts and professional models, we create content that not only motivates but also highlights the incredible transformations that result from hard work and dedication. Whether we’re working on captivating photoshoots or exciting fitness campaigns, Fittwins is all about redefining how fitness is viewed in the modeling world. It’s an exciting journey, and we’re here to empower and uplift through fitness and style!

SA: Growing up as twins, did you both always share a passion for fitness and modeling, or did that come later in life?

Oh yes, we both share a passion for fitness and modeling. To be honest, Derrick actually started going to the gym a day before I did! Throughout our fitness journey, we’ve been inspired by a lot of fashion icons. That’s when we decided we wanted to not just get fit, but look really good while doing it.

SA: How do your personalities differ, and how do these differences affect your professional lives?

Okay! So, we come from different academic backgrounds, but we have similar personalities. Those differences don’t affect us professionally at all—in fact, it’s been working really well for both of us.

SA: Twins are often seen as having a unique bond. How does this influence your work dynamic?

Twins definitely share a unique bond, and it really impacts how we work together. It’s this connection that gives us a deep understanding and trust, making communication and collaboration so much easier. In the context of Fittwins, where fitness and modeling come together, this bond boosts our creativity and motivation—we’re always pushing each other to achieve our goals and stay accountable. Plus, our shared experiences and different perspectives bring fresh ideas to the table and help us build a strong brand identity that really connects with people. Honestly, this relationship is such a powerful asset, both professionally and personally.

SA: What are the best and worst parts about working with your twin in the same industry?

The best part about working together in the same industry is the trust and understanding we share—it really helps with teamwork and communication. We’re always motivating each other, sharing ideas, and celebrating our successes, which makes the journey so much more enjoyable. Of course, there are challenges too, like dealing with comparisons and competition, which can sometimes create tension if we don’t handle it well. Another thing we’ve had to navigate is establishing our individual identities since people often see us as a pair rather than as two distinct individuals. But honestly, finding that balance has been key to making our partnership successful.

SA: Have you ever trained a client together, and how did it go?

Yeah, training a client together is so much fun! When twins work as a team, it’s like doubling the energy and motivation. We each bring our own strengths to the session, and that makes the experience even better for the client.

SA: Have you ever disagreed on a major professional decision, and how did you resolve it?

Yeah, disagreements happen—even between twins! When it comes to big decisions, it’s all about communicating openly and really listening to each other’s perspectives. The key is finding common ground and staying focused on the shared goals of the business to work through any differences.

SA: How do you deal with situations where one of you gets a modeling gig, and the other doesn’t?

When one of us lands a modeling gig and the other doesn’t, we always have each other’s back. It’s all about celebrating the wins and staying positive. We remind ourselves that opportunities come and go, and there’s always going to be another chance for both of us. That mutual support and encouragement are what keep us going strong.

SA: What’s the most common misconception people have about maintaining a fit lifestyle?

One of the biggest misconceptions about staying fit is that it means extreme dieting or nonstop intense workouts. A lot of people think you have to be super strict with your food or practically live at the gym to see results. But honestly, it’s more about finding balance, staying consistent, and making sustainable choices that work for your lifestyle. The key is doing activities you enjoy and being flexible with your nutrition—treats and rest days are just as important.

SA: Is there a particular designer or brand that you both dream of walking for or representing?

Oh yes, we have some amazing fashion designers both here in Africa and beyond!

SA: Have you ever faced challenges because people assume twins are a “gimmick” in the modeling industry?

Yeah, that can definitely be a challenge! Sometimes, people see twins as more of a gimmick and don’t take us seriously. That’s why it’s so important for us to show that we’re professionals with our own unique styles and skills. We make a point to focus on our individual strengths and put in the hard work to prove ourselves.

SA: Has being twins ever limited your individual opportunities in modeling?

Yeah, it can sometimes feel like being twins limits individual opportunities. People often want to book us together, which can make it tougher to get solo gigs. But we try to make the most of it by showcasing our unique styles and personalities in our work. It’s all about finding ways to stand out while still supporting each other.

SA: Do you think social media helps or hinders fitness trainers and models trying to establish credibility?

Social media can definitely be a double-edged sword for fitness trainers and models. On one hand, it’s a great way to reach a wider audience and show off our work, which helps build credibility. On the other hand, there’s a lot of misinformation out there, and some people might question our expertise based on trends instead of real knowledge. That’s why it’s so important to use social media wisely—sharing authentic content that truly reflects our skills and values.

SA: How do you manage your social media presence, and do you coordinate content as a team?

We definitely coordinate content as a team! It helps us keep a consistent brand image for Fittwins. We plan our posts together, making sure to highlight our unique strengths while also showcasing our teamwork. This way, we can connect with our audience and share the energy and motivation we bring when training clients together.

SA: Being fitness models, how do you handle attention on social media, especially from fans?

Handling attention on social media can be a bit tricky sometimes. We try to stay focused on our goals and the positive interactions we have with our fans. Setting boundaries is key, so we don’t let negative comments affect us. We also really appreciate the supportive messages and make an effort to engage with our followers in a meaningful way.

SA: What’s the weirdest or funniest DM you’ve ever received from a fan?

So far, we haven’t received any weird messages from anyone—not at all.

SA: How do you handle criticism, both online and in person, about your looks or work?

Not at all. We present ourselves well, so we haven’t encountered any criticism.

SA: Who’s more outgoing and likely to approach people first—whether in personal relationships or networking?

I’m Dennis, and I’m usually the one who’s more outgoing and tends to approach people first, whether it’s in personal relationships or networking. I really enjoy meeting new people and making connections. My twin, Derrick, is a bit more reserved, but he’s still super supportive when we’re out there mingling. It’s all about finding that balance between our personalities.

SA: What’s one thing people assume about twins that you’d like to debunk?

One assumption people often make about twins is that we have the exact same personalities and interests. But that’s not always the case! My twin and I each have our own unique identities, tastes, and strengths. We work hard to show that we’re individuals with our own paths and passions, even though we share a special bond as twins. It’s really about celebrating our differences and showcasing our individuality.

SA: Have you ever played pranks on clients or people by switching identities, and how did it turn out?

Oh, we’ve definitely pulled some twin pranks before! Sometimes, during training sessions, we’d playfully switch places just to see if the client would notice.

SA: Which one of you is more likely to quit modeling first and why?

We think it’s hard to say who would be more likely to quit modeling first since we both have a strong passion for it. We’ve faced challenges together, and our shared motivation really keeps us going. Plus, we both value the professionalism and unique styles we bring to the industry.

SA: What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your careers so far, and how did you overcome it?

One of the biggest challenges we’ve faced is people seeing us as gimmicks in the modeling industry. To overcome that, we’ve really focused on showing our professionalism, unique styles, and individual skills. It’s taken a lot of hard work!

SA: Have you ever doubted your journey or felt pressure to take a more “traditional” career path?

Yeah, there have definitely been moments of doubt, especially with the pressure to follow a more traditional career path. But we always remind each other of our passion for fitness and modeling, and that keeps us motivated. Plus, we really value the trust and teamwork between us, which makes it easier to stay focused on our journey.

SA: What’s the ultimate goal for both of you as a duo in the fitness and modeling world?

Our ultimate goal as a duo in the fitness and modeling world is to inspire others through our brand, Fittwins. We want to show the power of teamwork, trust, and motivation in fitness while breaking stereotypes about twins in the industry. It’s all about building a strong community and helping people reach their fitness goals together.

SA: In the future, do you see yourselves venturing into business together, perhaps a fitness brand or modeling agency?

Oh, for sure! Starting a fitness brand or modeling agency together sounds like an amazing idea! With our experience and the unique dynamic we share, we could create something really special. Plus, it’d be a great way to help others on their fitness journeys while showcasing our styles.

SA: What advice would you give to young aspiring models or fitness trainers who look up to you?

Stay true to yourself and embrace what makes you unique. Work hard, stay dedicated, and build a solid support system. Also, don’t be afraid to showcase your individuality—just like we do with Fittwins. Open communication and teamwork go a long way in helping overcome challenges in the industry.

SA: Finally, what’s next for “@fit_twins_gh”? Are there any exciting projects or goals in the pipeline?

We’re always looking to grow and evolve with Fittwins. Right now, the focus is on creating more engaging content for social media and exploring potential collaborations with brands that share our values. It’s all about staying true to the brand while continuing to inspire others in the fitness and modeling world. We’re excited to see where this journey takes us.

SA: How can interested parties reach out to you for business inquiries, partnerships, or collaborations?
