Enoch Otoo

SA: Who is Enny (Enoch Otoo)?

Enoch is a 22-year-old that was born and raised in Accra, Ghana.

SA: How did the journey of being a designer begin?

I have always had an affinity for art ever since I can remember. I figured out I can do more with my craft by impacting my life and others positively and that is what got me on track

SA: How would you define fashion?

Fashion to me is a self-expression tool

SA: Who has been some of your inspirations, mentors, or role models?

Junya Watanabe, Virgil Abloh, Demna Gvasalia

SA: What is the concept behind the “DEHOOD” Brand?

I started DEHOOD to tell a story of a survivor and hopefully become the light at the end of the tunnel for people as well.

SA: There is a lot of planning and organizing involved in launching a brand. How well did you handle the pressure and long working hours?

I must admit the journey has not been an easy one. But I have always had a handful of drive, passion, and support from friends and family which I believe kept me going.

SA: Do you work with partners or employees when designing, or are you working alone?

I work alone for now, but I am open to having partners and building a team in the future.

SA: You have styled a few famous people for their music video and stage performances. How does it make you feel to see them sporting your brand?

I will keep it short with this one, GRATEFUL.

SA: Will you call yourself “a jack of all trades” – dancer, karateka, designer, model. How do you manage these talents?

It has never been a problem balancing all these since I have a passion for each of them, and they all fall under art as well.

SA: Aside the talents we know of, what other talents have you explored or would like to explore?

Videography and Photography

SA: What does your typical day look like?

I listen to 30 minutes to 1 hour of jazz music in the morning while I organize my room and get myself ready for the day. The rest goes into getting orders ready, making content for the brand, and communicating with customers.

SA: How would you describe your personal style in 3 words.

Edgy, Playful, Daring.

SA: What kind of outfits do you wear often? Could you give us a detailed picture of your regular look?

A t-shirt, pants, comfy footwear, and accessories(cap, jewellery) to go with it.

SA: Your clothing brand features Japanese kanji symbols. Why did you choose these symbols, and what do they stand for?

I chose to use Kanji symbols because I am invested in Japanese culture as well. The symbols represent Eternity, Harmony, and Revelation. These are prayer points for me and the journey I have decided to embark on.

SA: How long does it take to design a pair of kanji pants?

12 hours

SA: The Harmony Cap, Kanji Pants, DEHOOD Tees, and Revelation and Eternity Tees are among the items of the brand. What’s the concept behind each fashion item?

Putting the harmony symbol on a cap came from the idea of a peaceful and stable mind. The Revelation and Eternity tees were inspired by the ying-yang symbol and colorway.

SA: What is your favourite fashion accessory?

Cap (Harmony Cap)

SA: What is the one thing, people will be surprised to know about you?

That I am a self-taught fashion designer.

SA: What are some of the common responses you have received from family, friends, and customers after you launched the DEHOOD brand?

Surprisingly the response has been positive so far.

SA: Are there upcoming projects you would like to promote or share with us?

Yes, I have a collection releasing soon termed INTROSPECTION and a pop-up.

SA: Final words?

If you want magic, get out of your comfort zone.
