Sammy visited Egypt in 2022, and as usual, he posted some tips, hacks, guides, and reels.
Let’s look at Sammy’s Egyptian Experience:
Sammy shares on the 5 things to know before visiting Egypt:
π΅πͺπ¬ Is Siwa Oasis safe for solo female travellers? Yes. As a small town with a robust tribal bond, Siwa is very safe and female harassment is virtually non-existent. Itβs a welcome break from the constant cat-calling (π£ SHAKIRA) and inappropriately touching women travellers often experience in more popular tourist destinations such as Cairo, Luxor and Aswan.
ππͺπ¬ Egypt is in Africa NOT the Middle East – Egypt lies in the north-eastern corner of the African continent, it’s bordered by Libya π±πΎ and Sudan πΈπ©, that is as African as it gets.
π¦πͺπ¬ Is tap water safe to drink in Egypt? – Donβt drink the tap water, let water enter your mouth while showering and donβt brush your teeth in it either! Use bottled water instead, itβs cheap and readily available
ππͺπ¬ There’s nothing to see in Egypt but the Pyramids – False, there are so much more to Egypt than the pyramids, Siwa Oasis, Luxor, Aswan etc are other places to checkout
ππͺπ¬ Egypt is nothing but a desert – Though most of Egypt is covered in desert, there are numerous beaches, museum, Roman ruins, restaurants & plenty more to Egypt than just desert
Sammy shares on the incredible salt lakes of Siwa Oasis in Egypt: Important things to note before a visit to the Siwa salt lakesπͺπ¬π§π¦:
The magical Salt Lakes in Egypt will definitely give you an extraordinary swimming experience even if you canβt swim.
π©³ – Use your old swim wear
π – DO NOT get salt water in your eyes or mouth else itβll be unpleasant
π§π½ββοΈ- DO NOT put your head underwater
ππ½ββοΈ- Itβs almost impossible to swim because in salt water swim lakes, the density of a person is less than the density of the fluid, and hence we float (if you canβt swim, itβs PERFECT as itβs impossible to sink)
πͺ – DO NOT shave before visiting the salt lakes..
πΏ – Try to rinse off the salt as soon as possible because if it drys up thereβll be layers of salt on your body and it feels unpleasant.
Sammy shares on the ancient ruins of Shali fortress at Siwa Oasis π΅πͺπ¬
The Old City of Shali or locally known as Shali Ghadi Built between the 12th and 13th century, Shali Fortress was originally built as a place to protect the Siwi people against potential attacks from other Bedouin tribes. The ancient fortress is entirely made of Khershif, or salt and mud-brick, which only adds to the distinctiveness of the architecture. Much of Shali is now destroyed due to heavy rains that crumbled the town. However, it remains open for visitors and is well worth the hike. Check out the remarkable view from the top of Shali.
PRO TIP: Don’t miss one of the best sunset views in Siwa over the amazing shali fortress over looking the whole city.
Sammy on the Authentic Heritage-Lodge in Egypt’s Siwa,Oasisπ΄πͺπ¬πͺ
In Siwa I stayed in a traditional, one-of-a-kind, heritage lodge with stunning scenery of Old Siwa. This Luxurious ecolodge is nestled outside the ruins of Old Shali, a 13th century citadel in the center of Siwa. It’s a place where you can reconnect with something bigger than yourself. A sanctuary for the adventurous and wandering. Once in a while, it’s refreshing to disconnect from the world and enjoy the kind of magic that only ancient tribes, majestic mountains, and ruthless desert climates can conjure. Each one of their hand-built rooms is unique. The buildings blend naturally into the landscape while all the furniture and crafts pay tribute to nature and to talented local artisanship.
